Oral-B Professional Care 3000 Review

Oral-B Professional Care 3000Did you know that a regular manual toothbrush can leave up to 50% of plaque behind? That’s simply not acceptable for anyone that wants to maintain a great smile, as plaque can lead to gum disease and gingivitis. The Oral-B Professional Care 3000 is a mid-range model in Oral-B’s great line of electric toothbrushes, specifically designed to fight these issues. It’s said to remove up to 99% of plaque, which is a huge improvement over a regular toothbrush.

Oral-B 3000 Professional Care 3000 Product Overview

  • Pressure sensor lets you know when brushing too hard
  • Three cleaning modes: Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whitening
  • Included charging base that stores four brush heads
  • Includes 1 Precision Clean brush head

Pressure Sensor and Quadrant Timer: Two Great Features of the Oral-B 3000

Two great features that you’d expect to find in any worthwhile electric toothbrush are the pressure sensor and quadrant brushing timer. Built into the Oral-B 3000 toothbrush itself is a simple LED light system that functions as the pressure sensor. If you’re applying too much pressure to your teeth, the LED lights up to signal that you should lighten up on the pressure you’re using. Brushing too hard will not only cause your brush heads to wear out faster than normal, but it can cause gum bleeding as well. The pressure sensor functionality is basic when compared to some other electric toothbrushes, but it gets the job done.

The quadrant timer of the Oral-B 3000 is also a staple of any quality electric toothbrush. When you start brushing your teeth, an automatic 2-minute timer will start, and then the brush handle will physically pulse every 30 seconds to signify that you should move to the next area of your mouth. Dentists recommend brushing for 2 minutes, so a brushing timer goes a long way toward making sure you’re getting adequate brushing time.

Switching the brushing mode is controlled by a single button which you press repeatedly to cycle through the available brushing modes of Daily Clean, Sensitive, and Whitening. A more distinct toggle switch with 4 positions would have been preferable to the single-button system of the Oral-B 3000, but that’s just a minor complaint.

The Oral-B 3000’s battery lasts about 10 days before needing to be recharged. There is a simple green indicator light that blinks when the brush is still charging, but no battery life gauge or indicator unlike the 5000 series.

How Well Does The Oral-B 3000 Clean Your Teeth?

As mentioned, the Oral-B 3000 comes equipped with 3 distinct brushing modes. Daily Clean mode is the standard 2-minute clean cycle which you can expect to use, as the name suggests, during your daily cleans. It leaves your mouth feeling distinctly clean and fresh, much more than a manual toothbrush and many of the older-style electric toothbrushes. Oral-B claims that the brush pulses 40,000 times per minute and oscillates 8,800 times per minute, which is a significant increase over older brushes.

The Sensitive brushing mode is great for those with sensitive teeth and gums. It functions more or less the same as the standard Daily Clean mode, but pulses and oscillates slower and more gently so that it’s easier on the gums and teeth. If this isn’t an issue for you then you probably won’t get much use out of the Sensitive brush mode, but if you do happen to have sensitive gums and teeth, it’s a lifesaver.

Included with the Oral-B 3000 is just a single Precision Clean brush head. It works great and is the standard brush head most people use, but you can also buy and fit your toothbrush with any of the other brush heads available. If you’re someone with sensitive teeth and gums and find that the Sensitive brushing mode is not gentle enough, there is also a specialized Sensitive Clean head that is softer and easier on the teeth and gums.

We’ve read a lot of praise from owners of the Oral-B Professional Care 3000. Many people love how clean it makes their teeth and mouth feel. A common compliment for this brush is about how much of an improvement it is over older-style electric toothbrushes. The brush supposedly really does brighten and whiten your teeth, especially for coffee and tea drinkers, and who doesn’t want a brighter smile?

A minor complaint we had with the Oral-B 3000 is that the included charging base is rather large when compared to some other electric toothbrush charging bases. It’s able to store 4 brush heads, but takes up a bit of space on the counter-top. It’s not a major issue, but if you have a lack of storage space in your bathroom, you might want to consider a model with a smaller charging base. On the upside, the base lies flat and is both very sturdy and easy to clean. If you’re worried about mildew developing, an easy to clean base is a nice thing to have.

What’s the Conclusion On the Oral-B Professional Care 3000?

Unfortunately, there’s an issue I need to address. Oral-B’s pricing structure with their Professional Care line is a bit odd. For only about $25 dollars more, their top of the line Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 5000 can be had, which has a number of improvements over the 3000 model, including a UV Sanitizer and wireless LCD SmartGuide.

Unless you’re on a tight budget, we would strongly recommend spending a few more dollars and opting for the Oral-B 5000. If you go with the 3000, however, you’ll find that it is a completely satisfactory toothbrush for what it is.

Pros

  • Leaves mouth feeling nice and clean + cleans well

Cons

  • The much better Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 5000 can be had for not much more money
