Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000 Review

Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000The Oral-B ProfessionalCare series of electric toothbrushes is the most popular line of electric toothbrushes available, and we’ve had nothing but good things to say about it. The Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000 comes in at just a step below the excellent Oral-B 5000 series, but at a slightly less expensive price point. Let’s take a look at the Oral-B 4000, shall we?

Brushing Your Teeth With The Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000

When it comes to cleaning ability, the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000 is much like the others in the ProfessionalCare line. It definitely gives a dentist-clean feeling, and you can tell that it’s working well. If you’ve only used a manual toothbrush before, the Oral-B 4000 does a much better job, especially at cleaning between the teeth where a regular brush usually misses.

There is a marked improvement in the cleaning ability of the Oral-B 4000 when compared to the lower-rated models in the ProfessionalCare line. It is clearly more powerful in terms of brushing power and pulsation, and the brush itself feels much more sturdy than the lower-tier brushes. It goes without saying that the cheapo electric toothbrushes you’d find at the grocery store for 1/10th of the price don’t even come close to comparing to the cleaning ability of the Oral-B 4000.

The small travel charger is nothing to write home about: it gets the job done. What might be of use to some people is the fact that it is dual-voltage, meaning it can be used overseas as well. If you’re a traveller, this is excellent, but otherwise it’s kind of meaningless. Also appreciated is the fact that the toothbrush battery itself can be easily replaced by the user.

The Oral-B 4000’s Built-In LCD SmartGuide

The SmartGuide built into the brush handle is a neat touch. It is a simple but easy-to-read LCD screen that gives you feedback on your brushing session as well as the remaining battery life. It tells you the time remaining of the dentist-recommended 2-minute brushing time, with a visual indicator, and will display a little smiley face when the time is up. The Oral-B 4000 also has a built-in pressure sensor, which will let you know on the LCD screen when you’re using too much pressure. A neat little touch, which we thought was cool. All in all, the SmartGuide is a nice and handy addition that we got some use out of, but isn’t totally necessary.

What’s the Verdict on the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000?

Important note: Although the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000 is a great electric toothbrush, we found it odd that the superior to-of-the-line Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 is just a few dollars more. It has a superior SmartGuide – a separate wireless unit instead of the built-in one in the handle, comes with an extra brush head, a superior charger, and more. The Oral-B 5000 also happens to be our top-rated electric toothbrush. Because of all of this, we can’t recommend the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000, and would definitely recommend going for the Oral-B 5000 (click here to read our review).
