The Oral-B Pulsonic Sonic Electric Toothbrush is squarely aimed at consumers who want a mid-range sonic electric toothbrush but don’t want to break the bank when investing in one. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of this electric toothbrush so you can decide on whether or not this is the toothbrush for you
Oral-B Pulsonic Product Overview
- Sonic technology cleans better than standard electric toothbrushes
- Built-in dentist-recommend 2-minute timer to ensure proper cleaning
- Very compact and convenient charger takes up little space & can be wall-mounted
- Includes one regular and one Precision Tip brush head designed for cleaning between teeth
- Two cleaning modes: Clean & Sensitive for those with sensitive teeth & gums
- Reduces up to 94% of surface stains in as little as 2 weeks
The Oral-B Pulsonic has a long and slender handle, which feels very similar to a regular toothbrush. This makes it easy to manoeuvre it around your mouth, and it will be very much appreciated if you don’t like a big and bulky electric toothbrush. You’ll also find that the vibrations of the brush mostly stay in the head itself and barely effect the handle, which is a very nice plus that minimizes annoyance, especially compared to most other electric toothbrushes you may have used.
How Well Does the Oral-B Pulsonic Clean Your Teeth?
The PrecisionTip head included with the Oral-B Pulsonic works very well for cleaning between the teeth where normal toothbrushes will miss. You also get a standard brush head in the package which works well for a regular overall clean.
As you’d hope to expect in any quality sonic electric toothbrush, the Pulsonic has a built-in audible quadrant timer. Dentists recommend brushing for a total of two minutes, split into 30-second increments for each quadrant of the mouth. The Pulsonic makes this easy by starting an automatic 2-minute countdown timer which emits an audible tone every 30 seconds so that you know that it’s time to switch to the next area. Addressing a complaint that some have with various electric toothbrushes on the market is that the Pulsonic will not automatically shut off after the 2 minutes are up, letting you brush longer if you choose to do so.
The Sensitive cleaning mode is not only great for those with sensitive teeth and gums, but makes for a nice preparation mode for those not used to using a high-speed sonic electric toothbrush. It works the same as the regular cleaning mode, but vibrates much more gently. If you’re already used to using electric toothbrushes then you probably won’t get much use out of this mode, but it’s a nice touch nonetheless.
The included charger is nicely small and convenient, and can store two extra brush heads. We really liked the fact that it can be mounted on the wall, which makes for a very unobtrusive charger that takes up almost none of your precious bathroom counter space. Even if you don’t want to mount it on the wall, leaving it on the counter takes up very little space. The design of the charger is nice in that it’s designed in a way that makes it very hard to knock over, which is never a good thing to happen.
Unfortunately, being a mid-range budget electric toothbrush, the Oral-B Pulsonic does not come equipped with a pressure sensor. If you have experience with using electric toothbrushes then this won’t be much of a concern, but new users will often have troubles with brushing too hard. A pressure sensor is something we would recommend for anyone new to electric toothbrushes, so you may want to consider a model that does include one.
So, Is the Oral-B Pulsonic a Worthy Purchase?
When it comes to sonic electric toothbrushes, the Oral-B Pulsonic is probably the best one on the market at it’s very affordable price-point. There’s a lot of functionality and a surprising amount of quality for what you pay for this unit (about $50) when compared to others around its price range. Although it’s missing some features that you’ll find on higher-priced electric toothbrushes, such as a pressure sensor, it’s hard to beat the Pulsonic in terms of sheer value for your money.
We’d definitely recommend this toothbrush!
- Very slim and lightweight; comparable to a regular toothbrush
- Very affordably priced, especially for a sonic toothbrush
- Vibrations mostly stay in the brush head, reducing annoyance
- Convenient base is small and can also be mounted on the wall
- No pressure sensor
- Charger does tend to slide a bit, but is hard to knock over
This electric toothbrush is for…
- Anyone who wants a very affordable but great sonic electric toothbrush
- Those who like a slender, easy-to-use electric toothbrush that feels a lot like a regular toothbrush
